Collage

Being able to create art without needing technical skills is freeing. It is a medium which allowed FAB participants to explore some intense feelings and express them in interesting ways. We looked at artwork by Barbara Kruger, Shirin Neshat and Martha Rosler as inspiration.

Anne - "We meet people daily in our lives and we say "How are you?" or "Are you okay?" And we say "I'm fine." But are we really? I really really enjoyed this project. I guess it's about all the emotions and feelings jostling for a space, trying to get out, but we try to keep them all in. Hence the explosion in the end."
Jaccie - "My collage is about Covid. I feel adrift, as if floating in my own thoughts, a disconnect. It has been my job to make sure the family are safe, but this virus has ripped them from my arms. The dandelion is a symbol of emotional healing; like the seeds, I feel we are adrift, and I don't know where the winds will take us."
Christine - "My collage was inspired by Covid-19 pandemic."
Debbie - "My collage is about how I feel during this time. The quote just seemed to sum it up for me. The eyes show a lot of despair, sadness, anger and happiness. All the emotions we have all gone through."
Laura - "my collage inspiration is my partner and the changes we have gone through he was diagnosed with level two Autism in January. We have had no support in helping us adjust and learn about the condition because all support is based around children and parents. I have had to step up as a carer as well. The words describe our daily struggles, and the colours are the colours on my partner's awareness lanyard that he wears in public."
Rachel - "Here is my collage. It is dedicated to my daughter who has autism, and who is struggling right now with confusing gender issues. This is to show her my full support, however she decides to live her beautiful life."
Eileen - "I want to portray that there is a brighter future for survivors of domestic violence."
Carole H - "I made my collage in Breast Cancer Awareness month. My thinking is that 'killer boobs' refers to the boobs, all being lovely, whatever their size or shape, but also to their potential to kill if not checked out regularly. The food images are my suggestion that many women pay more attention to the appearance of the food they cook than to their own breasts."
